Bodegas Catena
Zapata
The Pioneer of
the Malbec grape.
|
Dear Friends,
Bodegas
Catena Zapata is the pioneer
and innovator of the Malbec
varietal in Argentina, a hot
topic in the wine world that
continues to heat still.
After taking over the
operation of the winery,
focused then (in the 1960s)
on distribution within
Argentina, Nicolas Catena,
3rd generation
grower/producer, began to
strategize and plan on
producing wine that would
achieve world class status.
Through market awareness,
sound
business
practices
(a former
economics professor) and
exhaustive vineyard work to
determine the best situated
vineyards, Catena released
their first wines to the
outside world in the mid
1990s. Since then not only
has Catena earned awards and
much acclaim for their wines
made from many varietals,
they have even partnered
with Baron Eric Rothschild
of Lafite-Rothschild in the
prestigious Caro project in
Mendoza-- a real place of
interest for the Bordelais.
We are happy to present to
you as extensive of a
selection of Catena wines as
we have seen.

"Deep garnet in
color, it
delivers notes
of wood smoke,
pencil lead,
cassis, black
currants, and
blackberry. This
leads to a
medium to
full-bodied,
elegantly styled
Cabernet with
nicely layered
black fruits and
hints of
eucalyptus as
well as espresso
in the
background. The
tannins are
well-integrated
and should
permit several
years of
development in
the bottle.
However, it can
be enjoyed now
and over the
next 10-12
years."

"The 2004 Alta
Cabernet
Sauvignon was
sourced and
blended from
three vineyards
with distinct
terroirs and
aged for 18
months in new
French oak. It
offers greater
aromatic
complexity with
elements of pain
grille, scorched
earth, espresso,
black currant,
and blackberry
liqueur.
Medium-bodied,
it has the
elegance of a
classified
growth St.-Julien,
with intense,
spicy, cassis,
mint, and black
fruit flavors,
superb balance,
and a 45-second,
pure finish. It
will profit from
6-8 years of
further
cellaring and
drink well
through 2030."

Remarkably
fragrant and

Made in a
