2016 Artazu Pasos de San Martín Garnacha (750ml)
Grenache from Navarra, Spain

95JS

Attractive, wild-herb accents with wild cherries and dark raspberries on offer, and some gently meaty, youthful complexity. The palate has such depth and drive with intense and detailed, rich dark fruit. Blueberry and red-plum flavors hold long on the finish. Drink or hold.

2017 Maranones Estate Garnacha (750ml)
Grenache from Vinos de Madrid, Madrid, Spain

The eponymous red 2017 Marañones makes reference to a zone of the same name in the village of San Martín de Valdeiglesias that also names the project. It's pure Garnacha from three vineyards in the named "paraje" on north-facing slopes on granite at 750 to 850 meters in altitude. The full clusters fermented in 3,300-liter French oak foudres with natural yeasts after a cold soak, and the wine matured in 2,500- and 3,00-liter oak foudres for one year. It has a developed color and nose that is quite delicate and Mediterranean, in the style of a ripe vintage of Pignan, with citrus, floral and some balsamic/herbal notes as the wine warms up in the glass. It has the grainy and chalky tannins from the granite soils and is nicely balanced, with contained ripeness and a solid structure. It has the chalky saltiness that I find in many of the Marañones wines. These vineyards delivered good yields in 2017, and the amount of bunches and grapes compensated the warm conditions, resulting in contained ripeness. 7,400 bottles were filled in June 2019.

2019 Borsao Garnacha (750ml)
Grenache from Campo de Borja, Aragon, Spain

91JS 90V

Aromas of fruit, spice and walnut with some wet earth. Full-bodied, round and juicy with a nice finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

91 points, James Suckling (Mar 2021)

Brilliant magenta. Smoke-tinged dark berries, cracked pepper and a hint of gaminess on the pungent nose. Chewy and tightly focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry and boysenberry flavors that unfurl and become sweeter on the back half. Lingers with very good persistence on the finish, which features silky tannins and a strong echo of sweet blue fruit. This wine is ridiculously easy to drink and delivers really great value.

2018 Bodegas Breca Garnacha de Fuego (750ml)
Grenache from Calatayud, Spain

90JD

The 2018 Garnacha De Fuego is always a delicious fruit bomb that delivers the goods. Lots of ripe black cherry, plums, licorice, and roasted herbs all dominate the bouquet. It's rounded and supple on the palate, has beautiful fruit, plenty of classic Grenache character, and even has a touch of minerality, which is just about impossible to find in a Grenache at this price point. It's a smoking good value that's ideal for drinking over the coming 2-3 years.
