Here too reduction is present but there is enough of the underlying aromas in evidence to discern that this is both aromatically finer and more elegant. The detailed, pure and lightly mineral-inflected flavors are cool and restrained while possessing better underlying tension and excellent length on the mouth coating finish. Worth considering.

The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin – 1er Cru is made from parcels in Craipillot and Perriere vinified together. Floral, minty notes lead to sweet spices and licorice as this delicate, layered wine shows off its class. The aromas and flavors resonate beautifully off the palate as the wine works its way through to the multi-dimensional finish. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.
