St. Michael-Eppan's Pinot Bianco Schulthauser offers floral aromas of peaches and stony mineral notes. It is a ripe and rich white wine with both elegance and weight. There is excellent depth on the palate and a long, clean finish. It is a great white to begin an evening with over appetizers but also has the complexity to tackle richer dishes. 90 points, Steve Rayman, B-21
The 2007 Pinot Bianco Schulthauser reveals a darker color than the regular bottling. It is made in a softer, riper style, with lovely overtones of earthiness and smoke that add layers of complexity to the fruit. A lingering note of sweetness resonates on the long finish, This generous, engaging white is a steal for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2011.
San Michele Appiano is another of Alto Adige’s cooperatives making gorgeous wines. The strengths here are the whites. As is the custom in this part of Italy, San Michele Appiano offers several ranges of quality, in this case three, two of which fall into the under-$25 level. Wines in the ‘Classic’ line are fermented and aged in steel, while wines in the ‘Cru’ line are partially fermented in cask. 89 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate #178 (AUG 2008)
