The 2007 Chianti Classico Riserva Le Baroncole is a very beautiful wine, but I sense the estate hasn’t quite gotten the most out of this bottling yet. Juicy red berries, flowers, spices and French oak all come together quite nicely, but the oak seems a bit intrusive. Over time the oak flavors are likely to recede but the hard, slightly dry tannins probably will always remain. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. 91 points. (97% sangiovese and 3% canaiolo nero; 18 months in large oak barrels, tonneaux and barriques, 40% new oak; 14.9% alcohol) Dark red. Pure, bracing aromas of red cherry, underbrush and coffee. Fleshy, suave and dense, with captivating nuances of red berries, dark plum, leather and minerals. Displays impressive volume and suave tannins on the long, complex finish. This is much less oaky and balsamic than some past versions. And it's already accessible even if it should offer very fine drinking for the next ten years. 91 points, By Ian D'Agata - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Jul/Aug 10
