The Negly 2007 Coteaux du Languedoc La Clape La Falaise represents a blend of Grenache with a slightly smaller percentage of Syrah. (Much smaller amounts of Mourvedre are utilized in years when that grape is deemed especially successful and capable of enhancing the blend.) Tasted assembled and returned to barrel, it displays Chateauneuf-like notes of ripe, herb-tinged black fruit preserves and sandalwood, with raw meat, inner-mouth lily perfume, and cocoa powder emerging on the sumptuous, texturally polished palate. While this wine displays strong, sweet confiture suggestions, its fruit retains a fresh edge and its long finish is not just rich but nuanced. 91-92 Points, David Schildknecht for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Jun 2009)
