"Another sleeper of the vintage, this blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc emerges from the limestone soils outside St.-Emilion. An inky/purple color is accompanied by stunningly flamboyant aromas of melted licorice, white chocolate, raspberries, and black currants. Full-bodied, layered, gorgeously pure, and well above its official pedigree, this 2005 Joanin-Becot should drink beautifully for a decade." 90 points - The Wine Advocate, Issue 176
"Good red-ruby. Jammy blueberry, espresso, licorice, mocha, menthol and nutty oak on the nose. Fat, rich, deep and sweet but with nicely integrated acidity giving the wine shape and firmness. Unusually powerful for this Cotes de Castillon wine, which really coats the palate on the aftertaste. Has a firm acid/tannin spine for slow evolution in bottle." 90 points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/Jun 08
